Character Spotlight: Javier Mendez

Today's update is about the character that I previously had thought up but didn't put down much information on. I think I'd like to name him Javier Mendez because he reminds me of Salvador from Borderlands 2: short, stocky, and loves big guns. His purpose aboard the ship is to have as many guns as he wants to protect the ship and its crew. Pirates get into a lot of trouble and Javier is one of the main soldiers to help kill and maim as many people as necessary to get away with the booty. 

I guess he's still a little like Jayne with his love of guns and IQ, but that's pretty much it. He uses a weird version of Spanish sometimes with his Common like when he calls his guns 'mi amor' and 'mi corazon.' He comes from another planet, haven't thought of a name, that was settled by those of hispanic descent. The planet has a little more Gs than earth, so Javier is like 5'6" and 250 pounds; sounding a little like Salvador? I picture him with buzzed black hair and a cleanly trimmed chinstrap for facial hair. 

Jesse and I came up with a little side detail that maybe the residents of Javier's home planet still celebrate Cinco de Mayo, but over the years the history behind it got changed and now it's mostly a reason just to drink. We thought it'd be funny if someone asked Javier what Cincodemayo (perhaps it just becomes one word?) is and he responds with a very different story than what really happened, probably a war that was stopped by everyone drinking and partying together. Haha, just an idea.
