Sad Face

I'm sorry, I have sooo much stuff to do right now, I think I'm going to have to wait until both the snows of college work and the winter melt away for me to get back on this blog. Thus :(

That Just Happened

Snow day. Jayhawks win. Elijah Johnson put away 39 points. And 500 wins for Bill Self.

Good night.

Moar Snow?

I can't handle all of this snow. I don't know what to do with it. I did get to make my first snow angel the other day and I have several friends that want to take me sledding. Found out that shoveling snow gets tiring very quickly, especially when we only have one shovel and a broom. But the snow is really peaceful as well, silencing the city for a day and making time seem slow.

So here's my attempt at an update to my blog. Just thought I'd ask some more questions, reveal some more plot. I was wondering earlier if this time period has some crazy adaptations to plastic surgery. I'm thinking like press a button and have a different face crazy. I didn't get to think about how this could be possible, but it may only be a small detail in the story, I don't know yet. Part of Devon's story is that he was created by (perhaps some "lost" section of some government) for (still unknown reason) and has his memories replaced by his creators, let's say every ten years because the memories leak, and perhaps they could change his appearance along with the memories. Yeah, long sentence, but the idea is still coming together, along with everything else, haha.

The Outlying Post

That's right, Ladies and Gentlemen, T.J managed to update her blog and post about it BEFORE MIDNIGHT! Haha! I feel very proud of myself and I think you should too! It's been a fun Saturday, doing nothing, attempting laundry, and hanging out with friends, but I finally found the time to update before it's suddenly the next day.

I worked on the next section for Scarlett, Character, and tried to think about who she really is. It took me awhile to come  up with the right words to describe her, and I know I left room to add in more. I feel weird leaving a lot of these sections not completely filled in, but I know they have plenty of room to grow and I plan on updating these character pages as I go along. I want my characters to be as real as I can make them, and people change, so why shouldn't my characters?

Still thinking up more questions about the technological gap in my story, but I haven't come up with any that would be that relevant yet. I'm stuck thinking about this huge war that destroyed the Atlantic Ocean and how humanity had to create a structure that kept it from mingling with the waters of the Pacific. Destroying half the planet is a good way to make people look for other places to live, and thus the space race to inhabit planets we had never been to before.

Maybe I should have a page of working ideas? Like this war idea that seems to set up the history of the story. It could just be a place to see all my rambling ideas in one place. It's my first blog, so anything goes! At least I'm having fun, right?

Worst. Blogger. Ever.

No update today, and I waited until almost 3 in the morning to post. I am terrible at blogging, haha. Another snow day and I just never had much of a chance to sit down and work on this. I did get confirmation that Devon "sounded hott," though, which sounds great to me.

Jesse gave me a great idea in answer to a question I posted yesterday. There might be some kind of huge war on Earth, destroying the Atlantic Ocean and any land that touches it (Europe, Africa, and parts of North and South America). This is probably what prompted the massive terraforming of planets and their subsequent peopling. Still playing with the idea, but I like how it's sounding. I'll try to work on this blog tomorrow. Sorry, haha.

Snowpocalypse

Uhm, KU gave us a snow day, so I think I have the day off for my blog as well. Yup.

Welcome, Facebook Friends

Because I have shown you this blog, I felt obligated to update it today and have given up some sleep to do so. I posted Devon's trivial preferences and I am about ready to just go to sleep. 8 am classes are too early.

Couple questions, though. If the sun is shining brightly and we, on Earth, say it's  sunny, what if a planet in the Alpha Centauri system is also bright and we want to comment on it? Do we say it's Centauriy? There would also be two stars, since it's a binary star system, so does that change the wording at all?

So many weird questions pop up when you fast forward 900 years.

Uh Oh...

Yup, it's happened-- I have updated nothing on the blog today. SO BUSY. Ugh. Sorry guys. Hopefully I can do something tomorrow... but maybe nothing until Wednesday.  I'm still thinking about this project, I promise!

<3

The only good thing about this post? It's before midnight. Haha.

Pizza Shop with No Dough?

Yup, we were down to one pan of dough and one sicillian style crust tonight at work. The next person that called and wanted more than one pizza would have been denied because a pizzaria had no more dough. It made the night just a little more interesting as I counted down the amount of potential pizzas every time I answered the phone, and there were times I had the Mission Impossible theme song run through my head. We made it through though, despite some interesting errors like having to remake a pizza twice and a completely wrong address miles away from the store. It was a long night and it meant little time for updating. Sad Face.

I did manage to get Trivial Preferences up for Scarlet, and wow, some of those sections were truly trivial. I liked thinking about them, though, because they just gave me one more facet of my character. It was just something else to think about that could possibly make a difference in the story. Maybe. I like to be hopeful in the beginning, haha.

One day, I'll be able to update more than one section in a day.

Rock Chalk

Nice to see the boys  having fun on the court tonight, kickin' some Texas ass with double their score for a lot of the game. I love watching the Jayhawks play, especially when McLemore gets number one on ESPN's top plays with his 360 dunk. Beautiful.

Anyway, I finished up Devon's personality section and put it up. He had a harder personality for me to figure out than Scarlett, but I think I'm starting to understand him a little more. Like Scarlett, I left some commas at the end of lines because I'm sure I'll come back and fill in more words. I like that they have very opposite personalities because it will make for some very heated conversations in the book. Sometimes small scenes cross my mind where they are yelling at each other over stupid things and I can't help but smile.

I really hope I can keep up this writing. School is going to get a bit busy and I'll probably never post before midnight, haha. Well, at least I don't consider it tomorrow until I've gone to sleep. Or maybe it's when the sun comes up. Whatever it is, I promise I've kept up posting something every day so far. Here's to hoping it can continue. Cheers.

Normally I Can't Get the Hang of Thursdays

So today I went to class, had a fun run-in with a stranger and Disney songs, played Halo 4 and found Dead Space 3, napped for 4 hours (on accident), listened to my friends improv session with bass, drums, and guitar, and to top it off, it snowed. It was a fun day, but it left little time for me to work on this story, haha. I did work on it though, of course after midnight, and got Scarlett's Personality information up on her page. I left a lot of commas at the end of lists because I know I will be able to update it more as I get to know her through writing. I know she'll have more verbal idiosyncrasies, but I don't think they'll really come about until I start writing her dialogue.

Devon's personality is next, of course, but I feel like I need to sit and and really spend some time writing in the the information of my characters. It's good to spend a little time every day doing this, but I want to invest some time into this one day and just pump out a bunch of ideas and scenes just to get the ball rolling. So many cliches in my post, haha. Anyway, time to get scared by some Dead Space 3. T.J out--

Valentine's

Well, finally a post before midnight. Had a great Valentine's day, in case you were wondering. Jesse and I made a goat cheese stuffed pork tenderloin for dinner, along with not one, but TWO dutch apple pies. Soooooo good.

With all this good food in my belly and some awesome Game of Thrones on the tv, I didn't have much energy or will to do some writing. I managed to finish Devon's Training/Hobbies/Possessions section, but only after some intense thinking. I don't think it's done, but it's a start and is helping create a fuller picture.

Time for sleep. D: T.J tired now, haha.

So Much Homework

Erg, I spent most of my day doing homework. It was mostly reading, so very time consuming. I had a little bit of time to work on the next section for my character pages, so I did Training/Hobbies/Possessions for Scarlett. I'm working on Devon's, however this section takes a surprisingly long time for how short it is. I didn't post his part yet because I didn't finish it, but it really makes me think about what the past was like for the characters.

I still need something that Scarlett is bad at, something that Devon and maybe the rest of the crew can make fun of her for. I want it to be something simple, something she does a lot. What do people do when they spend most of their time on a space ship? I need more ideas, haha.

Happy Valentine's Day tomorrow, well, today at the time of this writing.

Learning the Rhythm

Day four has felt pretty good, I feel like I'm getting down the habit of doing something for this blog every day. It is still reallllllly early, so I hope I can keep it up. Talking to other people about this blog helps keep it relevant to me because I enjoy talking about it. Some people haven't been as excited to hear about my adventures in cyber space, but that's okay, not everyone loves writing as much as me. I'll try not to annoy anyone too much about this blog.

I was able to update more information on both Scarlett and Devon today, adding a new section to each page: Physical Aspects. It was a pretty short section, but it helped me visualize my characters more concretely. Talking to Jesse about what my characters would look and sound like was interesting because I liked hearing how he envisioned them. I had only told him about their personalities and a vague history and he was picturing them very similarly to how I have for years.

One idea that came up today was what the weapons would be like during this time. Scarlett is very piratey and likes some of the old-fashioned looks so she chooses to carry a revolver rail gun. I was rather proud of the idea that I had come up with for guns to be more like rail guns since they need to be able to work in the vacuum of space. They would be a huge problem inside ships of course, but I think we can find a way that we can have gun fights without suffocating everyone all the time.

Jesse wanted Scarlett to learn Krav Maga (Israeli hand-to-hand combat), so I'm thinking she needs to meet a Jewish pirate on a space station that teaches it to her. Also, they need to cross paths later in the book and have a weird encounter with Devon the German. I dunno, very small detail, just something quirky to add in. I'm all about the quirks. If an Australian Space Pirate doesn't sound quirky, I don't know what is. It sure makes a fun book to write, though. Can't wait to work on this some more tomorrow.

Small Update

I had a busy day, so the only update I have today was written during an hour break I had in between classes. I made a new page called The Story and wrote a short summary. It reads exactly like the back of a book, but I want to expand on it and hopefully get a working outline for the whole story line on that page.

On a much more productive note, go Jayhawks and happy birthday McLemore. :D

Here's to a more productive day tomorrow.

The Start of a Plan

My goal is to try to update the story through this blog at least a little bit every day and then write a post about what I've done. This story will get somewhere if I keep working at it, and I think this is the best way to go about it. Thank the stars I have Jesse to help bounce ideas around so I don't feel quite so stupid about starting this. I love writing, but this is a very new way for me to go about it.

Today was a busy day with homework and then work, but I was able to work out some basic information about my two main characters, Scarlett and Devon Marx. I created separate pages for them so I can expand their personalities and histories and  have a consolidated space for all the ideas I have about them. I have many more categories to think about for both of them, so those pages are still heavily under construction. I literally have pages of questions to answer about my characters before they have been fleshed out enough for me to write their story in its entirety.

Sadly, it's an early day tomorrow and I still have this horrendous cough that is threatening to make me drown myself so at least my throat will feel better. I'll probably dream about my characters now, maybe come up with some clutch catch phrases.

'Till tomorrow.

The Birth of a Novel

I've always wanted to write a full-length sci-fi novel ever since I started reading the genre. I was sucked into the world of fantasy at a young age and subsequently science fiction once I realized there was a specific genre about the advancements of science. Many different books and their writers have served as inspiration to me many a time, but the most influential series have been the Halo series, Anne Aguirre's Sirantha Jax series, and recently Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game series. These stories of space battles, sassy women, and philosophically influenced science have helped me think of a few ideas for a story that I want to write for others to enjoy.

The main character, one Scarlett Rayne Harper, has been alive in my head for the last few years, gaining more personality over time, but I think now is the time to try to at least start writing her story down. I'm actually just afraid I'll start forgetting all the details I'm thinking of so I thought I'd store them in the infinite reaches of the internet. And everyone knows that blogs last forever. I'm convinced there are huge graveyards of blogs in the nether regions of cyberspace that hold the forgotten cries of adolescents, abandoned yet immortalized.

Anyway, I have a few characters thought out and a basic plot line, but that's all. I want to use this blog to flesh out all of my characters (I mean, a space pirate captain needs a crew and a rugged badboy to fall in love with, right?), refine the plot, add twists, and hopefully create a novel that could perhaps one day be published. If you choose to follow this adventure, I only ask that you have patience because I'm sure it'll be a long and crazy ride.
