Day four has felt pretty good, I feel like I'm getting down the habit of doing something for this blog every day. It is still reallllllly early, so I hope I can keep it up. Talking to other people about this blog helps keep it relevant to me because I enjoy talking about it. Some people haven't been as excited to hear about my adventures in cyber space, but that's okay, not everyone loves writing as much as me. I'll try not to annoy anyone too much about this blog.
I was able to update more information on both Scarlett and Devon today, adding a new section to each page: Physical Aspects. It was a pretty short section, but it helped me visualize my characters more concretely. Talking to Jesse about what my characters would look and sound like was interesting because I liked hearing how he envisioned them. I had only told him about their personalities and a vague history and he was picturing them very similarly to how I have for years.
One idea that came up today was what the weapons would be like during this time. Scarlett is very piratey and likes some of the old-fashioned looks so she chooses to carry a revolver rail gun. I was rather proud of the idea that I had come up with for guns to be more like rail guns since they need to be able to work in the vacuum of space. They would be a huge problem inside ships of course, but I think we can find a way that we can have gun fights without suffocating everyone all the time.
Jesse wanted Scarlett to learn Krav Maga (Israeli hand-to-hand combat), so I'm thinking she needs to meet a Jewish pirate on a space station that teaches it to her. Also, they need to cross paths later in the book and have a weird encounter with Devon the German. I dunno, very small detail, just something quirky to add in. I'm all about the quirks. If an Australian Space Pirate doesn't sound quirky, I don't know what is. It sure makes a fun book to write, though. Can't wait to work on this some more tomorrow.
